American Capital Invests $39 Million in Combination of Two Leading Manufacturers, Distributors of Flooring Installation Products

Bethesda, MD – January 6, 2005 – American Capital Strategies Ltd. (Nasdaq:ACAS) announced today that in December 2004 it invested an additional $39 million in its portfolio company Halex Corporation to refinance existing debt and to support the acquisition of Capitol USA, a leading manufacturer and distributor of flooring installation products and accessories. American Capital's investment takes the form of a senior term loan, senior and junior subordinated debt and common equity. American Capital is also providing a revolving credit facility. American Capital Invests $33 Million in Leading Manufacturer and Distributor of Flooring Installation Supplies

Bethesda, MD – August 1, 2002 – American Capital Strategies Ltd. (Nasdaq:ACAS) announced today it has invested $32.8 million to recapitalize Halex Corporation, the leading manufacturer and distributor of carpet tackstrips, plywood underlayment and other flooring installation supplies. American Capital's investment takes the form of senior subordinated notes and preferred stock. Antares Capital Corporation provided a senior term loan and revolving credit facility and also purchased preferred stock.
