The Operations Team is comprised of 20 former CEOs, Presidents, COOs, CFOs and Supply Chain and Outsourcing Specialists with vast experience in industries such as consumer products, financial services, energy, technology, industrial, outsourcing and supply chain. This skilled team assists principals with initial operational due diligence, works with the deal teams to analyze investment decisions and provides an operations perspective on American Capital sponsored investments. The team is also responsible for guiding the turnaround efforts for a small number of portfolio companies.

Deal Team Assistance

Operations works with deal teams to assess a target company’s ability to achieve its business plan. Additionally, the team builds an “operational” relationship with the company’s management team and helps sell the company on the operational assistance American Capital can provide. The team also lays the ground work for post-closing performance improvements and provides operational perspective post-close. Often, a member of the Operations Team will participate on a portfolio company’s Board of Directors.

The Operations Team assists portfolio companies in the following ways:

• Implementing cost improvements;
• Systematizing sales and marketing;
• Developing and aligning business plans;
• Strengthening management capabilities; and
• Improving processes to support growth.

Portfolio Performance Improvement

Additionally, the Operations Team works directly with struggling portfolio companies to improve performance. The experienced Operations Principals are capable of interim leadership of portfolio companies and help identify business actions that help improve performance. The team also provides hands-on assistance to reduce costs, grow the business and strengthen management talent.
